Help us choose a title for our new book

We are almost ready to publish our new book, which we have given the working title The What If Book.

But we think it really needs a better title. The What If Book does what it says on the tin, but it isn’t really exciting enough to grab people’s attention.

Some of the ideas4writers forum members have kindly sent in a few suggestions, and at the end of this message you’ll have the chance to vote for your favourite title, or suggest one of your own.

But first, let me tell you exactly what’s in the book, so you know what the title is meant to represent:

The book starts off with a brief intro that tells you what What Ifs are and how to use them, and how to use lateral thinking to expand them and twist them into something new and wonderful. Many of our What Ifs (as regular readers of this blog will know) are deliberately ambiguous or have double meanings, or even multiple meanings. We’ve sorted them into what seemed to be the most relevant category, but you can come up with even more ideas by mentally moving them into a different category.

Next comes all the What Ifs – 4,440 of them – sorted alphabetically into 150 categories, and filling over 200 pages. The name of the category is also in the header at the top of each page, so you can always see where you are or find the category you need.

Example:

LITERATURE

  • What if you had never read a book?
  • What if the works of Shakespeare had been completely overlooked?
  • etc.

About 3,000 of the What Ifs previously appeared (in random order) in the members’ section of the ideas4writers website, and in the old eZine (now discontinued). Another few hundred originally appeared as bonuses in the newsletter (also discontinued) and more recently in the ideas4writers blog which replaced it. Then there are the 480 that will appear in the blog over the next 4 years. And then there are a couple of hundred more that are exclusive to the book.

Voting is now closed

The title we’ve chosen is:

The Fastest Way to Get Ideas – 4,400 Essential What Ifs for Writers

Thank you for your help!

Voted for ‘The Ultimate’ because that emphasizes the enormous number of What Ifs you supply but the Writers’ Block would be even more appealing to me on a day that I was browsing for help!

  2. Joan Garlick Says:

I have voted for other as I think that “WHAT IF…..?” is an intriguing title and generally sums it up in a nutshell. A question in the title always seems to appeal to readers. Apart from that if I was looking for inspiration that is the kind of title that would draw me to the book.

  3. Kathie Roberts Says:

Sorry I’m too late to vote. I was going to suggest, A Miriad Consequences
